Global Connect portal is used by every GM dealer over the world. Gives the dealer access to all the apps they use to make their job easier and is a medium for GM and dealers to commutate and share important information.
PROJECT OBJECTIVE
Redesign of the dealer portal to make it more user friendly and accessible via mobile phone and tablets. Provide a quick and simple solution to the problem within a month timeline. The original design was outdated and inconsistent. The information that the user came for was hidden behind many layers of marketing and tools that had no value.
CHALLENGES
Work with a team in different part of the work and on different timezones. Getting quick feedback and sign offs. Make a design that can work in different languages.
MY ROLE
I lead the visual design, research, user tests to get a sign off on the design and worked closely with the development team, product owners and BAs to achieve requirements and make sure the redesign is within the existing site architecture to minimize development efforts.
PROCESS
Research
Meet with employees at dealerships and get feedback of the portal and what improvements they would like to see in the new design
Work with developers and product owners on what the possibilities and restrictions are on the current environment
Concept
Create process flows, wireframes and review the layout with the Users, Product Owners and Development team
Prototyping
Create a hi-fidelity clickable prototype to conduct user tests and for the development team to understand the flow
Testing
Conduct user tests at the dealership to get quick validation before going in production.
CONCLUSIONS
After 2 month long sprint the project was completed and went live. Having a clear redesign goal helped with streamlining the design process.
The new portal was delivered to dealers in US and Canada initially and the conversion rate increased by 40%. Due to the successful design, the team was able to launch in 125 countries over the next 2 years.
